About Us

Princeton Park District

Created in 1946, the Princeton Park District maintains over 200 acres of parks, the Bureau County Metro Center, and the outdoor Alexander Swimming Pool.

The Bureau County Metro Center is a 50,000 square-foot recreation center with full size gymnasium; 25-yard indoor swimming pool with wading pool and observation balcony; racquetball courts; weight room; cardio-vascular room, elevated running/walking track above the gym; and locker rooms. A 40' x 80' multi-purpose room with adjacent kitchen provides the perfect setting for conventions, expositions, meetings, or wedding receptions.

Twelve acre Alexander Park has a new 9-hole disc golf course, skate park, six tennis courts, outdoor pool, horseshoe pits, barbecue and picnic areas, shelter, restrooms, playground and sand volleyball. West Side Ball Park provides 2 ball fields, restrooms, and concession stand. Zearing Park is a 72 acre park on the southeast corner of Princeton. You will find 3 ball fields, soccer fields, shelters, picnic and barbecue areas, sand volleyball, horseshoe pits, playground, and concession stand. Zearing Park is the future site of a pond, walking path, and outdoor soccer complex. City County Park is a 65-acre shady setting for trails, barbecue areas, log cabin shelter, playground, ball field, and restrooms.

The Princeton Park District Board of Commissioners, the Executive Director and all support staff are dedicated to providing leisure and recreational services to the communities we serve. It is the goal of the district to provide safe, inviting and family oriented activities to our residents.

The district is proud to announce that we are experiencing some great changes. As you browse through our newly enhanced website you'll notice a variety of new programs and activities, including feature information on our summer camps, specialty camps and activities.

Stay and Play with the Princeton Park District and have a wonderful summer!

Board Meetings are held at the BCMC on the 1st and 3rd Monday of each month at 4:30 p.m.

During the August 2nd 2010 meeting of the Princeton Park District Board Members held their meeting while they were taken on a bus tour of City County Park, Joe Myers Woods, Joe Myers Nature Preserve and Westside Ball Park. During the meeting and tour Park Superintendent Keith Scherer and Executive Director Elaine Russell discussed the many projects, both current and future of the Park District. Shown in this picture is Superintendent Keith Scherer discussing the electrical and utility pole repair project at Westside Ball Park. "Sitting in a room at the Metro Center and talking about our park projects is one thing; taking the board members into the parks and visiting on site, give a new dimension to our discussions and responsibilities", said Executive Director Elaine Russell.

This photo is of the Princeton Park District Board during the September 20, 2010 Board Meeting. The group held the meeting at the Zearing Park Expansion Construction site to review the preliminary punch list that was compiled earlier this month. In this picture, Executive Director, Elaine Russell and Park Superintendent, Keith Scherer are discussing the erosion around the pier and pond. The group took a guided informative tour around the Zearing Expansion including the pier, the pond, the walking path and the new restroom/concession stand buillding. This was the final park tour in a series this fall for all board members to visit all of the park locations of the Princeton Park District.

Living Tree Memorial

Looking for a great way to honor a very special person, remember a notable event, or recognize an outstanding organization? The Princeton Park District is proud to offer the Living Tree Memorial Program. Through this program, you can remember a person, event or organization by having a tree planted in their name. With your monetary contribution, a tree will be planted in a Princeton Park. In addition, the name of the person, event or organization and the year will be displayed on a plaque in the Bureau County Metro Center. This program will also benefit the community as a whole, and the tree can be enjoyed for years to come. To get a Living Tree Memorial, a $25 donation towards a tree fund and a $300 donation towards the purchase of the tree is needed. A specific tree request will be honored with any additional cost paid by the donor.
